Slovak Folklore Ensemble Ostroha was established in 2007 by Slovaks living in Republic of Ireland. Ostroha is engaged as a project of the community organisation “Slovak Centre – Ireland”. It is formed by experienced male and female singers, dance group and a music band who present beauty and endless variety of Slovak folklore and traditions via their songs, dance and music. Interpreting folklore from numerous regions of Slovakia e.g. Horehron, Parchovany, Hont, Šariš makes the repertoire attractive for audience. Each performance is characteristic with unique choreography and brilliant dance technique accompanied with excellent music. Ostroha performed at prominent festivals and cultural events such as:

  • Eurocultured, Dublin, Ireland (2008)
  • Festival of World Cultures, Dun Laoghaire, Ireland (2008, 2009)
  • International Ethnic Festival – ‘Prague Heart of Nations’ (Praha Srdce Národů), Czech Republic (2009)

  • Festival for Slovaks living abroad (Dni Slovákov žijúcich v zahraničí), Martin, Bratislava, Slovakia (2009)
  • Slovak cultural week, Dublin (2010)
  • Festival under the clock, Dublin (2010)

Ostroha, as a project of the Slovak Centre – Ireland is co-financed by the Office for Slovaks living abroad (ÚSŽZ).

It is also officially supported by the Embassy of Slovakia to Ireland and Lantern Centre.
